Rachel Call


Rachel Aina Call, age 17, lives in Provo, Utah. She is a full scholarship student at the Gifted Music School and is the recipient of the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Scholarship studying under the direction of Eugene Watanabe.

In 2019, Rachel performed as a finalist at the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artist Competition and was awarded honorable mention in Spokane, Washington. She was a finalist for this competition in 2017 and 2018 with an honorable mention award in 2017 as well. She was invited as a semi-finalist to the Blount-Slawson instrumental competition in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The UMTA Concerto Competition judges awarded Rachel 1st place in the high school senior division and she will play in the Winners recital on March 15, 2019 at Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra held the Aspiring Musician Competition and Rachel will perform at the Winners concert in Alpine, Utah on May 3, 2019. Rachel also performed with the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra in 2015 as a winner that year. For every year since 2014, Rachel has been invited to perform at the Utah Symphony Youth Guild Recital. Through this program, Rachel was able to perform twice with the Utah Symphony in 2015 and 2017 as part of the Salute to
Youth Competition winners concert. Rachel also performed in the Finalist Concert of the Stradivarius International Violin Competition Utah Division in July 2016. She was announced the overall winner of the Junior Division at the awards ceremony. As winner of her division, Rachel performed a full violin concerto with the Salt Lake Symphony in September 2017.

Outside of personal performances, Rachel is also devoted to performing with the
BEAR Quartet. The ENKOR Chamber Competition panel recently awarded high marks for the BEAR Quartet video submission and received 1st Prize in the 5th Edition of the online competition. Rachel was awarded the 1st prize medal with the BEAR quartet performance at the 2nd annual Paderewski Festival Chamber Music Competition in Salt Lake City, UT. The quartet was able to perform at other competitions in 2018 and received 1st place award at the PCM Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, CA, and 1st place in the Junior Division of the WDAV Young Chamber Musicians Competition in Davidson, NC. The quartet returned with 3rd place from the St. Paul String Quartet Competition in St. Paul, MN. The quartet also received invitations from the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2016, 2017 and 2018 as quarter-finalists in Southbend, IN.

When Rachel is not engaged with violin studies and performance, she enjoys down time with friends at the mall, the movies, or activities in nature.
