Twelve-year old Luka Coetzee has been playing the cello since the age of one. Luka is in the Honours Academy for Gifted Youth of Mount Royal University Conservatory. She studies piano with Derek Chiu. Luka has won numerous awards and competitions. As a winner of the Calgary Concerto Competition, she performed as a soloist with the Calgary Civic Symphony in April 2016. This past summer, Luka attended the Indiana Strings Summer Program for four weeks, where she won the concerto competition and played Vivaldi’s double cello concerto with Elliot Sloss. They performed in the gala concert with a chamber orchestra, comprised of faculty. On March 4th 2017, Luka performed at the Rising Stars concert in Canmore. When she's not playing music, she enjoys dancing, swimming, running, reading, and playing with her puppy, Lacie.
