Serena Chen is a 16 year old junior at St. Francis High School. She plays trumpet in the Golden State Youth Orchestra Senior Symphony and has served as principal trumpet for the HPS national honor band at Carnegie Hall. She will also be playing in the 2021 Sousa National Honor Band under the direction of conductor Michael J. Colburn. Serena has attended the 2018 Interlochen Trumpet Institute and was accepted into the 2019 Brevard Music Center and 2020 Interlochen Orchestra programs with merit scholarship as well as the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Trumpet Workshop this year. Most recently, Serena has been selected to perform a solo piece at a concert in San Francisco as a winner of the Junior Bach Festival competition. Besides trumpet, Serena enjoys running and photoshopping her pet cat, Catbalevsky, onto Snoopy comics. Serena will be spending 6 weeks studying at the Interlochen Center for the Arts symphony orchestra program this summer.
