Erin Yu


Erin Yu is a conservatory honor scholarship sophomore at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California and was one of the two select pianists featured on Interlochen’s Public Radio in 2019. She began studying piano at age 5, and is currently studying with Dr. Jed Galant. Erin made her orchestral debut with Slovakia National Opera Chamber Orchestra in 2017 summer. She recently won first place at the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) Honors Bay Area district competition and will represent the district to compete at the state final. Erin has also won first place, and winner of Contemporary award twice in East Bay Music Festival. She was also the winner of the United States international competition (USIMC) and the Nafisa Taghioff Award recipient of the Fremont Symphony Concerto competition, 2nd place in the CAPMT Regional Concerto Competition, and 2nd alternate in the MTAC (Music Teacher’s Association of California) Concerto competition. In addition, she placed 2nd in the Sylvia M. Ghiglieri Competition, and numerous awards at US Open Music Competition.

In addition to playing solo, Erin is the pianist in a trio group and a quintet group at Crowden School of Music at Berkeley, and had been accompanying various violinists and vocalists in their performances.

Besides competitions, Erin also loves to share her music with other people through the Music Student’s Service League, a service group that organize outreach recitals at senior centers in the Bay Area. Erin also has a passion in passing classical music appreciation to young children, where she founded MAC (Music Appreciation for Children) Initiative with monthly concert at local library. This program became a popular children series at the library with around 80 attendees at each concert.
Erin likes to experience variety of music teachings in different regions as she spent summers in music camps at Bratislava, Salzburg, Hong Kong as well as Interlochen Center for the Arts. She has received master classes from Dmitry Rachmaninov, Robert Ward, Eleanor Wong, Gabriel Kwok, Spencer Myer, Nancy Loo, Aquilles Delle Vigne, Michael Coonrod, TJ Lymenstull, Peter Mack and Leonel Morales. She was recently accepted into the Eastman School of Music Summer camp as well as Tanglewood’s Young Artist Program in 2020.
