Yiqi Chen was born in 2007. At the age of six, he began playing violin under the direction of Enwei Gu. In 2018, Chen was accepted to Central Conservatory of Music Primary School, ranking the first in China in the entrance exam. Since then, he has been under the tutelage of Professor Mingqing, Doctoral tutor, president of cello society of Chinese Musicians Association.
Chen participated the masterclasses of
Lynn Harrell, Li Wei Qin, Martti Rousi, Phillips Muller, Anna Filomena Silva, Michel Strauss,Young Song, Joanna Sachryn, Igor Ivanovich Gavrysh. He received the appreciation from the prominent performers, rewarded as a talented young cellist.
As the principal cellist, Chen has traveled and performed in the different cities in Asia and China. He has also been invited to perform at the opening and closing ceremonies for multiple times. He won a range of first prizes at competitions. Because of his outstanding music performance, he received an annual scholarship from the conservatory, as the youngest recipient who got this honor.
