Xinchen Zhang was born in a musical family on March 28, 2007. Her father is a choir conductor and her aunt is a pianist. She started to play piano at the age of 4, and begin to learn cello when she was 6. She studied cello under Professor Xinhua Ma for 3 years. In 2016, at the age of 9, she was accepted to the Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2017, she won 1st prize in Shanghai Music Competition. Later, she was invited to Vienna to participate in Vienna International Music Festival, there, she won the 2nd prize of cello competition category 4, in the 3rd New Cosmos International Music Competition. In 2018, she moved with her family to Los Angeles the United States. There, she attended Colburn Community School of Performing Arts (CSPA), studying cello performance under professor Clive Greensmith. She passed the audition and was granted the Herbert Zipper Scholarship for her to study at CSPA. In 2020, she won the first prize in San Francisco International Innovative Music Competition and the fourth prize in the 1st World Cello E-Competition "Napolinova".
