Wan Lin has been learning piano since she was 4 and she came to the United States in 2017 to further pursue her passion. She is currently in her second year of the Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A) in Piano Performance at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and she is under the tutelage of Prof. Timothy Ehlen.
Wan Lin took part in many competitions locally and internationally, where she has achieved 64 awards. She was Grand Winner of the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2020 (USA) and the winner in the Piano category of the NAFA-Music Essentials Concerto Competition (Singapore), where she took the 2nd place in the grand finals in 2015. In 2019, she won the 2nd prize at 2nd NIMC Piano Competition (Singapore) in the Artist Category and 1st prize in the Senior Category two years back in 2017 and won 1st prize at the 6th Lucien Wang Piano Competition in 2014, the 2nd prize in the Singapore International Youth Piano Competition (Chopin Etude Category) in 2013, and the 1st prize in Category C of 1st NAFA International Chopin Piano Competition in 2010. She is active as an accompanist as well, where she was awarded the Best Accompanist of 8th Tan Ngiang Kaw/ Tan Ngiang Ann Memorial Vocal Competition in 2014 and she has been appointed as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UIUC as an accompanist for choirs and vocalists during her doctoral studies.
Wan Lin was awarded with the “Excellent Professional Student in Piano Performance” and obtained a scholarship every academic year from 2006 to 2012 at the Fujian Arts College in China. She graduated with high distinction and was awarded the Best Graduate (Diploma in Music) and President Award 2015 during her Diploma studies at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. She has obtained her Master of Music from the Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music, studied with the world-renowned pianist AndrĂ© Watts (she was the only accepted student in his studio of that year). In addition, her many fine achievements and outstanding results have gotten her an appointment as an Associate Instructor in the Piano Department of the Jacobs School of Music, IU during her Masters’ studies.
