Stanford Yu (viola)

Stanford Yu is a freshman at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California, U.S.A. His passion of music started on piano and broadened to violin and viola. Stanford started violin at age seven and was the concertmaster in the Advanced String Class last year at Valley Christian Junior High. He was honorably performed in the middle school Open House day as first violin together with Chamber group. Viola was new to Stanford and he fell in love with this instrument.

Stanford has been playing piano solo for 8 years and violin in school orchestra for 3 years, now it’s time for him to challenge more. He currently studies viola with Noriko Iwamoto and is studying it in progress. Stanford attempted his first viola competition in August and won the Third Prize of 2020 USIMC Special Theme Bach, the only winner was awarded in that category of all age groups.

To pursue more goals, not only will Stanford play viola in VCHS String Ensemble class but also join the California Youth Symphony as the violist in this fall. His passion on viola will go on and on…
