Stanford Yu (piano)


 Stanford Yu is a freshman at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California, U.S.A. His passion of music started on piano and broadened to violin and viola. Stanford currently studies piano with Daniel Cheng and has won numerous piano awards since age seven. It includes First Place winner of Special Theme Bach Award in 2018 USIMC, Second Prize in 2019 US New Star Piano Competition, First Prize in 2020 Golden Classical Music Awards, First Prizes in the 2020 International Music Competition “Grand Prize Virtuoso,” London and Salzburg, and Gold Winner in 2020 NLPA.

Besides piano solo, Stanford is fond of playing duos or trio with his friends. He and his friend David Hsieh won the First Prize of 2020 International Music Competition “Grand Prize Virtuoso” London on a piano and vibraphone duet, and Second Prize of 2020 USIMC in Classical Chamber. As a Trio team, Stanford and his friends, David Hsieh and Jonathan Yuen (both played marimba), won Second Prize of 2020 USIMC in Classical Chamber. Stanford was also a piano accompanist for marimba concerto in Junior Bach Festival 2020. He believes that music is for everyone to appreciate in all kinds of type – solo, duet, chamber, quartet, band, orchestra, etc. He will continue doing it and performing the best to all.

In his leisure time, Stanford loves swimming in competitive teams, playing water polo in school team, watching movies, and playing with his pug, named Mozart. He also loves volunteering in diverse organizations. Stanford gives online piano lessons to young musicians. He’s played music instruments in churches for seniors in past years.
