Sonya Wert is twelve years old, and she is a sixth grader at Mars Hill Academy. She has been playing the guitar for six years with Jim McCutcheon and Jeremy Collins. She placed first in the New England Conservatory of Music competition junior division in 2019. She placed second in the 2019 Ohio Federation of Music Clubs statewide junior competition that includes all instruments and took 5 years of perfect scores to qualify for. She has performed in masterclasses with Martha Masters, Thomas Viloteau, and Mak Grgic. She competed in 2020 in the Junior Youth division at the International Guitar Foundations of America (GFA) competition. In addition to playing guitar, she loves to play volleyball, perform in plays, run track, and play golf.
