Sarah Barker

 


Sarah Florence Barker is a classically trained coloratura soprano, with a repertoire that ranges from Handel and Mozart to world premieres in collaboration with student composers. She was a member of several winning ensembles at the Unusual Ensemble Competition hosted at Carnegie Mellon University, most notably debuting Josh Brown's 'Five Words' which won Best Composition in 2019, and starred as Zemire in CMU Opera's production of Andre Gretry's Zemire et Azor. She is a two-time alumna of the Milnes Voice Studio at Savannah Voice Festival, where she performed several dates in Michael Ching's Speed Dating Tonight! in collaboration with the composer, and she is a frequent performer at her local church, where she performs a broad range of hymns and oratorio solos. In addition to performing, Barker is a writer, poet, and composer. Her first opera libretto Starsong, set to music by Elliot Yokum, received multiple performances by the Hartford Opera Theater in late 2019. Barker graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2019 with a BFA in Vocal Performance as a student of Maria Spacagna. She is currently studying under Beth Roberts at Mannes School of Music as she completes her Masters of Music in Voice (ant. 2021).
