Larissa Michel is a 20-year-old double-degree student at Oberlin College & Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, OH, and has been playing the violin since the age of 4. As a high school freshman, she took first place in the high school division of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra’s (TSO) Young Artists’ concerto competition, performing the first movement of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the TSO the following spring.
Larissa has also won prizes in the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit Student League and Birmingham Musicale concerto competitions. More recently, she won first place in the high school division of the 2018 [email protected] competition and performed on the winners’ recital. Larissa has also performed numerous times in the Czech Republic during the 2019 Litomyšl International String Masterclass.
Larissa also enjoys composing, and had a composition for violin with piano accepted for and performed at the 2018 Michigan Music Education Association Honors Composition Concert. In January and June 2019, she served as a coach for the violin sections of the Panamanian summer youth orchestra program, and discovered a passion for teaching young musicians!
Larissa is pursuing degrees in both biology and violin performance. She studied with Professor Milan Vitek for two years, and recently joined the studio of Professor Francesca dePasquale.
