Katie Velez (15) is a sophomore from Yorba Linda, California and began piano studies at age 7. Currently, she is the principal pianist for Pacific Symphony Youth Winds Ensemble performing at Segerstrom Concert Hall in Southern California. As a competitor, Katie recently won Gold, in 2019 at the Bo’ao International Piano Arts Festival/Competition in China. She is also a top prize winner in Southwestern Youth Music Festival, Musical Arts competitions and other events. She loves performing for the public with her Piano Trio, and Jazz Ensembles. For her volunteering efforts, she has received the prestigious President’s Gold Service Award, two years in a row. In her spare time, Katie loves to read, play soccer, practice Spanish and eat Korean BBQ.
