Kangin Joo, the New York International Concours Braunstein Award winner, is from South Korea and moved to the United States in 2014. He's been learning the violin since when he was 8 from his private instructors.
Kangin participated in an orchestra in Korea about 6 months after he started learning the violin and was a member of the orchestra for 3 years. He became the principal of the 2nd violin in Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra when he was 14.
In the beginning of 2019, Kangin played in the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra as the concertmaster.
For 2019-2020 season, Kangin played in Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra as a first violinst.
In June 2017, Kangin passed level 6 in ASTCAP Bowed String Evaluation with the score of 91.25 out of 100. In March 2018, he won the UALR piano and strings festival, getting a perfect score from the judge.
In March 2019, Kangin was chosen as the recipient of an Education Grant from the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation.
