Josephine Velez is 13 years old and has been playing the cello since she began at age 5. Performing at Segerstrom Concert Hall, Josie enjoys being part of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Ensemble. As a soloist, she has won 1st place in Bach Southwestern Youth Music Festival, and 2nd in the prestigious Young Artist Competition. As a chamber musician, Josie is a Regional Winner for VOCE, Music Teachers Association of CA. She is also a Montecito International Music Festival Scholarship Recipient and performs with Junior Chamber Music.
She currently studies with Laszlo Mezo (Pacific Symphony cellist, Chapman University faculty). In her spare time, she volunteers at her church and in an International service organization.
