Shining Sun

My name is Shining Sun. I began studying piano when I was 6 years old. As soon as I began learning, I loved playing the piano. It was not only a fun and exciting way to spend time but also a challenge. I learned if I want to master one section or even a note of a piece, I must practice many many times. I really enjoyed learning not only reading music during my years of study, but learning morals and virtues, and also becoming a more well-rounded person overall. I became proficient in many areas of music, and also, through my failures and mistakes, I learned that, in order to improve, I must master what I am trying to grasp, and persevere, in order to fix wrong notes and rhythm. Playing the piano is like doing math; I need to be attentive to every detail, and one simple mistake would require much more effort to fix in the long run.

In 2017 I had the chance to perform at a Sonatina concert in Kawai Piano Gallery in Houston, and in 2018, I performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Every year, I would perform at two recitals at Rice University. There is also an annual “Forum Auditions” competition held at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. I have consistently achieved the highest score possible. I also do well yearly in the “Jury” held at my music school. This year, I won First Prize with Special Honors at the XIV Sonatina and Sonata Youth Competition.

I also enjoy doing debate and ice skating outside my piano study, and I will be competing at debate nationals later this year.
