Nicholas Ressl was born in Taiwan and started playing the piano when he was 5 years old. He currently resides in Calgary, Canada. Nicholas has won local, national, and international competitions including 1st prize at Steinway Junior Piano Competition, Canada (2019), 1st prize at the Huesca Piano Competition, Spain (2017), and 3rd prize at the Canadian Music Competition, Canada (2019). In addition to his regular lessons, Nicholas is a student in the Mount Royal Conservatory’s Academy Program for Young Artists. In the summer of 2019, he was accepted into Alberta Pianofest’s Summer Academy Program. In September 2019, Nicholas was selected to take part in a Honens Festival showcasing the works of prominent Canadian composer Alexina Louie. He has also performed with the Calgary Civic Symphony.
Nicholas has taken part in masterclasses with recognized pianists including Katherine Chi, Roman Rabinovich, Alexander Braginsky, David Morosz, and Konstantin Shamray.
In addition to his piano studies, Nicholas is also an active violin player, playing in the Calgary Youth Orchestra. Nicholas is currently studying with Linh Nguyen at Mount Royal Conservatory. In his spare time, he enjoys triathlon, reading about cars, and taking care of his 3 younger siblings.
