Laoise Matsumoto began violin studies at the age of 3 1/2. She has participated in Austin Youth Orchestra since kindergarten for seven years and has been a concertmaster multiple times. In 2012, Laoise performed at Texas Fine Arts Summit XIII hosted by the Center for Educator Development in Fine Arts. She received runner-up awards for Young Musicians Festival Competitions (2012, 2014), and also was selected to play in Suzuki Young Artists String Ensemble during the Suzuki Association of America 17th Biennial Conference (2016). She currently studies with Sandy Yamamoto (Faculty of Universit of Texas, Austin) and Haeni Lee. In addition to solos and orchestras, Laoise loves to play in emsembles. She has participated in mutiple summer institute and festivals to gain opportunites to play in quartet, and she was selected as a member of Merit Scholar Ensemble for Austin Chamber Music Academy (2018-2019). This year, Laoise was a part of a quartet coached by her teacher Sandy Yamamoto, and they were selected as a finalist at Coltman Chamber Music Competition. Laoise also enjoys dancing, singing, playing other instruments, and calligraphy.
