Joanna Cheng is 15 years old and is a 10th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia. She has studied piano with Dr. Marjorie Lee for ten years. She was pleased to receive 1st place in the 30th International Young Artist Piano Competition (IYAPC) in 2015 and played at the winner’s concert at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium stage. That year she also won the MTNA Virginia competition and represented Virginia in the MTNA Southern Division competition in Tampa, Florida, winning Honorable Mention. More recently, she has advanced to the finals of the 2019 Elite International Music Competition and performed in Weill Recital Hall. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and reading novels.
