Gitanjali Rao is 14 years old and is a 9th grader at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Highlands Ranch, CO. Gitanjali has been playing piano since the age of 5 and has won several state competitions in Tennessee and Colorado. She shares her talent for playing piano in local assisted living centers and has organized performances with other talented young musicians. She recently took up the bass guitar and played the clarinet for a year.
Apart from this, she was named America’s Top Young Scientist of 2017 by the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge, with a patent-pending device to detect lead in water faster than any other current techniques. Sn Action grant to implement the solution.
Gitanjali was most recently included in Marvel's Hero Project that spotlights extraordinary and inspiring young people who make us want to do better and be better to make a difference in the world.
She was recognized as a 2019 Forbes 30 under 30, for science and community service.
