Juventus Piano Trio


THE JUVENTUS PIANO TRIO, composed of Roger Chen, violin, Julianne Ma, cello and Samantha Wuo, piano. They started playing together in the spring of 2017 under the direction of Rose Chen. Juventus is the Roman goddess of youth and rejuvenation. All three gifted musicians are currently in eighth grade and are members of Golden State Youth Orchestra's Sinfonietta Orchestra. In their short time together, they have already earned distinction in competitions, including first place in the 2020 VOCE Chamber Music competition and first place in the 2020 USOMC Instrumental Ensemble Category. Juventus Piano Trio has also received the honor of playing at the 10th Anniversary C'est Bon Chamber Music Concert. They truly enjoy playing together and will continue in the adventure of exploring trio repertoire.

ROGER CHEN started playing piano at the age of five and began violin lessons at the age of nine with Ryan Chen. As of 2019, Roger is the Concertmaster of the Sinfonietta Orchestra of Golden State Youth Orchestra. In 2019, he was honored 2nd place in US Open Music Competition in the Instrumental Solo Category. This year, as one of the youngest competitors, Roger won third prize in the instrumental solo senior group of US Open Music Competition. Roger has been an active chamber musician for the past three year and was invited to perform at the C'est Bon Chamber Music Academy 10th Anniversary Concert in September, 2019. This year, Juventus Piano Trio won first prize in the US Open Music Competition Instrumental Ensemble Category, as well as the 2020 VOCE Music Competition. Roger is currently an eighth grader at Moreland Middle School.

JULIANNE MA started learning cello with Mickie Lee at the age of eight, and currently studies with Vicky Wang. At the age of twelve, Julianne made her solo debut at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, performing the third movement of the Haydn Cello Concerto as a Gold winner in the International Young Artists Competition. In the last two years, Julianne won numerous prizes from competitions including: MTAC VOCE Solo, United States International Music Competition, ENKOR International Music Competition, United States Open Music Competition, International Young Artists Competition, and Great Composer Competition.

SAMANTHA WUO began studying piano with Rose Chen at the age of five. Her accomplishments include Grand Champion in the 2015 Youth Focus Piano Competition, 2nd place in the 2016 US Open Music Competition Treasury of Romantic Composers Category, an invitation to perform in the branch honors and convention recital after completing Certificate of Merit Level 8 in 2017, 3rd place in the 2018 US Open Music Competition Open Piano Concerto Division, and honorable mention in the 2017 Golden State Youth Orchestra Piano Concerto Competition. In addition to her piano studies, Samantha plays trombone and is currently principal trombonist in Golden State Youth Orchestra's Sinfonietta Orchestra. She also loves speedcubing and eating cookies.
