Andrew Gray
Andrew Gray, 17, is a Junior at Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. Andrew started his violin studies at the age of three at the Suzuki Music School of Westport in Connecticut and currently studies with Ms. Lya Stern of Bethesda, Maryland.
Andrew is Concertmaster of Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra’s Philharmonic Orchestra, Principal Violist for Landon School’s Advanced String Ensemble and founding member of Trio DNA. Among his various achievements, most recently Andrew won first place in the 2020 Gaithersburg Young Artist Award Competition and the 2019 YMIC Metropolitan Music Festival. Andrew was winner of 2019 Landon Symphonette Concerto Competition and was runner up at the 2018 Master Players Festival Concerto Competition. Andrew was selected for Maryland 2020 and 2019 All-State Senior Orchestra and 2018 All-State Junior Orchestra. He has performed in masterclasses with Katie Lansdale, Melissa White, Bella Hristova, Jonathan Carney, Kyu Young Kim, David Lisker and others.
In addition to playing the violin, Andrew enjoys experimenting with different harmonies as a composer. His percussion quartet “Asteroids” was performed by Sandbox Percussion. He has great passion for music and believes in its power to bring people together. He is grateful for all the friends he has made through music.
His hobbies include chess, squash, baseball, fantasy sports and a good game of ping pong.
