Sarah Mei, grew up in Maryland, and started learning the cello at the age of nine. She is now twelve years old, and attends the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra, as principal cello in the groups, Preparatory and Chamber Strings. She was the first place winner with her cello ensemble group at the American Protege International Competition of Romantic Music 2019 and Third place winner at ENKOR International Competition Chamber Music 2019. She also played at senior centers with other players to bring music to seniors who cannot attend formal concerts. Before starting the cello, she learned piano at the age of seven then stopped after a year. At fourth grade, she decided to start a new instrument, and found that she likes the sound of the cello the most. She then started to learn the cello with her wonderful teacher Ning Wang until now
