Mercy Jones
Mercy Jones, a longtime student of Irene Peery-Fox, has had the opportunity to perform concertos with orchestras around the world. Beginning at the age of 7 with Haydn's Little Concerto in C Major, she has gone on to perform movements of Beethoven's Concerto No 1, Mendelssohn's Concerto No 2, and Chopin's Concerto No 2 with symphony orchestras. She has performed in competitions around New Zealand winning many awards and honors including the chance to play live on stage with Lang Lang in the Civic Theatre, Auckland. She has also recently qualified to compete in the New Zealand National Young Performer Competition in October 2020. Mercy has competed in local and regional chamber music competitions over the past three years. She also learns double bass and participates in her school orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and sings in the choir. Mercy began teaching piano last year and enjoys coaching young students. As an accelerate student at New Plymouth Girls' High School, Mercy has also become a passionate adventure racer, cross country runner, and nationally-ranked orienteer. She enjoys baking, reading, and maths.
