Mira Hu


Mira Hu, a junior at Punahou School began studying piano at age three and cello at age seven. Mira’s current cello teacher is Nancy Hathaway. She serves as principal cellist in the Hawaii Youth Symphony I and Punahou Symphony; and in past years, in both the Hawaii All State Orchestra and Punahou School’s Advanced Orchestra. Mira also participates in the Hawaii Youth Symphony’s ensemble and Punahou’s chamber music program. Mira co-founded the Punahou Music Club, which organizes and performs in fundraisers throughout the year, raising over $20,000 for local charities since the start of the 2018-19, In competitions, Mira has won numerous awards for HMTA, Osaka International Competition, MTNA, and Morning Music Club. As a winner of the American Protege, Mira was invited to perform at Carnegie Weills Hall in 2019 of April. She was also awarded 1st in the Madeline Schatz-Harris Concerto Competition where she will perform the Kabalevsky Cello Concerto with the Kamuela Philharmonic in January. Over the past few summers, she participated in numerous festivals such as Domaine Forget, Indiana University String Summer Academy, Aria, Japan-Seattle Suzuki Festival, Masaki School of Music and Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.
