Sophia Liu
Sophia Liu is a 15-year-old violinist from North Carolina and is a sophomore at Cary Academy. She is currently a student of Professor Hsiao-Mei Ku from Duke University. She has been studying the violin for 11 years, performing at solo recitals and competitions as well as participating in chamber groups and orchestras. She attended her first competition at the age of 9, winning 6th prize at the Hong Kong International Violin Competition. In the summer of 2016, she also attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts camp. She won the Silver prize at the Golden Beijing National Violin Competition in 2018 and received the Young Artist Merit scholarship award to attend Eastern Music Festival in the summer of 2019. Sophia is currently a member of the Triangle Youth Philharmonic and a member of the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute. This fall, she was also 4th chair at the NC honors orchestra. Sophia also recently won 2nd prize for GCC’s Masters of Violin Sonata and 3rd prize in Masters of Violin Concerto. Sophia performs frequently at solo and chamber recitals, and orchestral performances.
