Irene Geng is a senior at Irvington High School in Fremont, CA. She discovered her love for piano and music when she was in kindergarten, and is grateful to have been under the tutelage of Ms. Rozina Tenenbaum since she moved to Fremont in 2009.
In 2018, Irene received the MTAC (Music Teacher’s Association of California) Panel Honors award. She has been a winner of the Fremont Symphony’s Young Recitalist Competition four times and performed at the Junior Bach Festival three times. She has received 2nd place and honorable mention at the East Bay Music Festival Piano Competition, 3rd place at the 2018 ENKOR International competition, honorable mention two times at the San Francisco Chopin Competition, and 1st place and 2nd place at the US Open Music Competition.
Irene is an avid chamber musician. Her piano trio ensemble was a winner of the 2019 Fremont Symphony’s Young Recitalist Competition. They received 2nd place at the 2019 Great Composers Competition (Music of Germany & Austria category) and 3rd place at the 2019 ENKOR International Chamber Music Competition. They also received 3rd place at the 2019 Pacific Music Society’s Chamber Music competition and were invited to perform for the winners’ concert at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House.
Passionate about giving back to her community, Irene is actively involved in the MTAC Music Students’ Service League (MSSL), a service group that hosts outreach recitals to promote happiness and cultivate a greater musical appreciation in society. She received the Regina Mastrantonio Memorial Fund Community Music Service Recognition Award in 2018.
Irene is also a classical ballet dancer. She received the Distinction Award for Vocational Graded level 2 Examination from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). As a piano accompanist for the Angela Ballet School, she played the RAD Vocational level 4 ballet repertoire during the official RAD examination in 2018.
