Vivo String Quartet

Carolyn Carr, violin
Enoch Hsiao, violin
Futen Wang, viola
Yunshu Li, cello

The Vivo Quartet is a string ensemble of four high school musicians, all members of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO) and students at North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Composed of violinists Enoch Hsiao (senior, student of Rachel Stegeman) and Carolyn Carr (junior, student of Rachel Stegeman), violist Futen Wang (junior, student of Marylène Gingras-Roy), and cellist Yunshu Li (sophomore, student of Katya Janpoladyan).

The quartet is coached by Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra violinist Jeremy Black and Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra concertmaster Charles Stegeman. Vivo was formed and organized in August 2018 under the aegis of the Youth Chamber Connection, managed by the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra.

The ensemble is the winner of 2018-19 Montgomery Fellowship Scholarship, sponsored by Chamber Music Pittsburgh and PYSO. As passionate students of classical music, all are accomplished musicians who have appeared as soloists with various orchestras. Dedicated to promoting chamber music in the Pittsburgh community, Vivo appeared in the lobby performance for the PSO's concert, "Music for the Spirit: A Concert for Peace and Unity", at Heinz Hall in the fall and in the Heinz Endowment’s open conference, "Nonprofits and the Call to Moral Leadership", in November 2018 at the August Wilson Cultural Center.
