Sophia Wong
Deemed as a passionate, sensitive pianist with an incredibly musical touch, Sophia Wong was born in Sydney, Australia, raised in Houston, Texas, and began piano lessons at age six. A veteran performer, she has concertized extensively in the greater Houston and Chicago area. Sophia has garnered top prizes in numerous local and international piano competitions: the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, the Houston Music Teachers Association Competition, Concert Festival Competition, and ENKOR International Competition. She has spent summers at the esteemed American Festival for the Arts, High School Piano Institute at the University of Houston, and Cooper Piano Institute at Oberlin Conservatory. Throughout her musical career, she has earned the distinguished Music Doing Good Scholarship twice and performed at Jones Hall, Galvin Recital Hall, and twice at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall. Sophia has had lessons with esteemed artists such as John and Professor Nancy Weems of The University of Houston and studied with Dr. Mei Rui throughout her high school career. In 2017, she was accepted into several renowned schools including the University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, and Johns Hopkins University for piano and engineering. Sophia now attends Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music studying with Dr. Sylvia Wang and pursuing a dual degree in mechanical engineering and piano performance.
Alongside playing the piano, Sophia excels academically and enjoys collecting Lego sets and watching superhero movies and shows. She actively serves in the music department at her church by leading hymnal sessions and playing the piano.
