Samuel Wong


Baritone Samuel Wong is now studying BA (Music) in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, majoring Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Mr. Caleb Woo, and learned Choral Conducting with Mr. Patrick Chiu. He was selected as an active participant of The International Summer Academy 2018 in The Mozarteum University Salzburg, instructed by Prof. Helen Donath and Prof. Klaus Donath. He has also participated in vocal master classes by Dr. Allen Henderson, Mr. Gong Dong Jian and Ms. Jill Feldman. He had won several vocal solo championships in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Besides singing, he has attained ATCL Diploma in Piano Performance and AMusTCL Diploma in Music Theory from Trinity College London. Samuel’s recent solo performances included Handel’s “Messiah”, J.S. Bach’s selected Cantata aria, Monteverdi’s “Verspers 1610”, Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy”, Mozart’s “Missa Brevis”, Somervell’s “The Passion of Christ”. He also interpreted the role of Figaro in both the abridged versions of Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia” and Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” under the baton of Prof. Carmen Koon, and performed as Notaro in both Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” and Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”.

Passionate about choral singing, Samuel has worked with renowned conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, Stephen Coker, Jonathan Cohen, Jaap van Zweden, Kuokman Lio and Wing-sie Yip. Currently, he is a member of SingFest Choral Academy, Hong Kong Youth Choir, Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus, Die Konzertisten, Cantabile, Musica Viva Chorus, Sacred Singers and Chung Chi Choir. As an active participant in the Hong Kong Arts Festival, he has performed in various operatic and theatrical productions including Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande”, Greig’s “The Suppliant Women” and Sheng’s “Dream of the Red Chamber”. Samuel has conducted his alma mater’s choir, SKH Lam Kau Mow Secondary School Choir, in “11th Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival” in Vienna, and, Aqua Voice, a chamber choir formed by undergraduate students in CUHK Music Department. He is also giving vocal coaching sessions in a number of secondary school choirs.
