Katherine Kim

Katherine Kim is currently a freshman at Bergen County Academies in the Academy of Performing Arts. She became passionate about music at a young age, as it has helped develop greater confidence in expressing herself. She was first introduced to music through playing the piano and later went on to win competitions and to perform twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Upon entering middle school, she learned to play the clarinet and was the concertmaster for the school band. She then further exposed herself to diverse music through participation in the Bergen Youth Orchestras, Bergen County Band, and North Jersey Regional Band. Such experiences contributed to her love for music, ultimately leading to her desire to enhance her knowledge and skills in music by auditioning for the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division (MSM). After her first year as a student at MSM, Katherine received the Cuker/Stern Endowed Precollege Scholarship in October of 2018. In May of 2018, Katherine competed in the ‘Young People’s Auditions Rockland County Music Teachers Guild’ competition and received the highest award for outstanding performance. Additionally, during the summer of 2018, she participated in the Mannes Prep Summer Chamber Intensive Program at Mannes School of Music. Currently, she is the concertmaster for her high school band as well as the principal clarinetist in the orchestra at MSM.
