SIA Piano Trio

The SIA Trio consists of violinist Sophia Shih, pianist Irene Geng, and cellist Allison Liu, three Irvington High School seniors and young musicians who love sharing classical music with the community. Currently coached by pianist Dr. Alison Lee, they have received 2nd place at the 2019 Great Composers Competition, 3rd place at the 2019 ENKOR International Chamber Music Competition, and 3rd place at the 2019 Silicon Valley Music Competition. Additionally, they have performed in the East Bay Chamber Music Festival, in a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society, and in the Pacific Music Society’s winners’ concert at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House. Despite all these accomplishments, the three young musicians are most proud of the benefit recital they held on Oct. 19, 2019. With a turnout of over a hundred people and a program of Haydn's Piano Trio No. 39 in G major, Piazzolla's Summer movement of the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, they successfully raised over 750 dollars for the Jenny Lin Foundation.

Sophia Shih started playing the violin at age 6 under Ming-Shui Yo and now studies with David Chernyavsky. She has been selected into the 2015-19 CASMEC (California All-State Music Education Conference) Ensembles and is currently co-concertmaster of the Golden State Youth Orchestra Senior Symphony. In addition to music, Sophia enjoys playing badminton, making 3D origami, and eating ice cream.

Irene Geng is very grateful to have been under the tutelage of Ms. Rozina Tenenbaum since 2009. She received the Panel Honors Award from MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California). She is president of the Music Students’ Service League under MTAC, a student-run organization that hosts monthly music recitals at senior centers. Besides piano, Irene is interested in neuroscience and loves good movies.

Allison Liu was under the guidance of cello prodigy Irene Sharp for 5 years and is now studying under Jihee Kim. She has been selected to perform in CODA (California Orchestra Directors Association) and was seated assistant principal for Mahler at Pacific 2019. Additionally, Allison has been playing piano since 2009 and received the Certificate of Merit (CM) Branch Honors award for Advanced Level 10. Besides cello and piano, she also enjoys playing the ukulele.
