Ethan D. Yu
Ethan Yu is a freshman at Mission San Jose High School who plays the piano. Ethan has studied piano under Professor Anna Poklewski since age ten.
In 2017, Ethan received “First Prize + Exceptional Young Talent Award” from the Grand Virtuoso International Music Competition, and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. He won the “First Prize” in the Korea Times Music Competition in 2016. He performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, New York, as a winner of the American Protege Piano Competition in 2016. Ethan has also won numerous awards from the San Francisco Chopin Youth Piano Competition, the U.S. International Music Competition, the U.S. New Star Piano Competition, “Music from Germany & Austria” in the Great Composers Competition, the East Bay Music Festival Piano Competition, and the U.S. Open Music Competition.
Besides practicing piano, Ethan plays the cello in the school orchestra. Ethan also finds interest in entrepreneurship, and won an award for “best business plan” in 2019.
He also enjoys playing water polo and the performing arts.
