Ariel Wang (flute)


Ariel started her flute lessons at the age of 9 with Natasha Foresi and Brenda Fedoruk. She now studies with Meghan Jacoby in Phillips Academy and periodically takes lessons with Linda Toote at Boston University. She is the principal flutist in the New England Conservatory of Music’s Youth Repertory Orchestra, and a member of the Phillips Academy Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra. She played on tour in Portugal with the Phillips Academy Symphony and Chamber Orchestras this March.

Starting the year after she picked up her flute, she has won ten first prizes in regional competitions in Vancouver, Canada such as the Richmond Music Festival and the Vancouver Kiwanis Festival. She has received multiple scholarships, and was nominated three times to represent Vancouver in the British Columbia provincial competition Performing Arts BC, where she was awarded First Prize and a scholarship in 2017, performing in their winners concert.

In July 2017, she participated in the national Canadian Music Competition in Ottawa/Gatineau, Canada, where she received First Prize in the national finals with the highest mark in winds and brass for all age categories (13-23 years).

Before moving to Boston, Ariel was a principal flutist in the Richmond Delta Youth Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble for two consecutive years. After winning the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition 2016, she performed the Chaminade Concertino with the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra in May 2017. In October 2018, she performed the Bizet/Borne Carmen Fantasy with the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra as a result of her first prize in the Waltham Philharmonic Concerto Competition.
