Abigail Grace (Abby) Harris


Abby Harris is a fourteen year old pianist and composer who lives in New York City. In the past two years, she was awarded two composition commissions -- one from MATA, Jr., and one from Missy Mazzoli and Ellen Reid’s Luna Composition Lab. Her MATA, Jr. commission premiered at Shapeshifter Lab in Brooklyn, and her Luna Lab composition premiered in May 2019 at Merkin Concert Hall. Her Luna Composition Lab composition was also streamed on multiple occasions on WWFM, the classical radio station, and has been recorded by the International Contemporary Ensemble. In 2019, she was named first in NY State. Pierson Award winner at Northeast regionals, and United States National Finalist by the NFMC composition competition. In 2020, she was recently named second in NY State (the highest slot for which she was eligible), and second in Northeast Regional competition. National judging is underway.

Abby studies piano with Karine Koroukian and presently studies composition with Kevin James, She was also very fortunate to have studied Professor Steven J. Cahn, and with composers Tamar Muskal, Niloufar Nourbaksh, and Molly Herron.

This part year, Abby won first prize, Best Prokofiev Performance 2019 (Age Group III), third prize, Art of Piano 2019 (Age Group III), and third prize, 2019 Artist of the Year (Age Group III), from the Great Composers Competition. This year she was awarded third prize (Age group III) in the Music of America GCC Competition. Additionally, as a second prize winner in her division in the BMTG international piano competition, Abby played a portion of Rzewski’s The People United Will Never Be Defeated! in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in November.
