Joseph Kesting

Joseph Kesting is a sophomore at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He has a number of passions, but his greatest is the piano. He started playing at seven years of age under the caring guidance of his first teacher, Dawn Golding. Joseph embraced this instrument and advanced to study under the exceptional direction of Rose McCathran, who took his ability to the next level. In November 2018, Joseph entered his first ever piano competition, performing Frederic Chopin’s Fantaisie Impromptu, Op. 66 at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Joseph received first place honors and was invited to perform at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in January 2019. Joseph was also awarded Grand Prize by the Rising Talents Music Fest in March 2019 and has been invited to perform at The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University. In addition, Joseph was recently awarded third place in the 2019 global online Great Composers Competition (Best Chopin Performance). Joseph enjoys playing the piano in a variety of settings including his high school concert band and chamber orchestra. He also greatly enjoys sharing his love of music with the residents of local nursing homes throughout the year. Aside from his passion for the piano and music, Joseph engages in various athletic activities. He has a love for the sport of lacrosse, which he has played since he was in the sixth grade and continues to compete at the high school level. He also recently completed his lifeguard certification and holds a part time job as a lifeguard at his local YMCA.
