Ivy Tan

I started playing piano at the age of five, and my love and passion for music continues to grow each and every day. Never did I imagine that it would become such a big part of my life when I first started learning 10 years ago.

When I was little, my parents enrolled me in many extracurricular activities, but piano was always my favorite part of the day. It started off as just a hobby, but then grew to become a bigger part of my life when I began playing under the guidance of Dr. Emily Hung. I entered my first piano competition, which then led to more practice time and performances. Throughout the years, I have won many awards such as 1st place in Chopin Waltz and Chopin Impromptu categories in SYMF, 1st place in CAPMT District VIII Honors Audition and District VIII Sonata-Sonatina, 1st place in Complete Works Audition of Southern California Junior Back Festival, 1st place in American Protégé Piano and Strings International Competition and a Carnegie Hall debut, 1st place in Los Angeles Gold Star Young Pianist Competition, and 1st place in Young Musicians Concerto Competition and a performance with the Orange County Collective Orchestra. I also had the opportunity to have my own solo piano recital at the UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts.
As a junior at University High School in Irvine, I am also involved in many school activities such as student council and the cross country team. Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering at the hospital by playing piano for patients and family members in the lobby, as well as working with various charities and philanthropies through National Charity League to give back to my community.
