Reina Ellie Hisada

Reina Ellie Hisada (9) from Deerfield, Illinois, is a third grader at Science and Arts Academy. She began studying violin at age of 4 as a student of Betty Haag-Kuhnke and piano at age of 8 as a student of Sueanne Metz. As a member of the Magical Strings of Youth, a violin ensemble, Reina has performed in the Chicago Orchestra Hall several times since 2014, the Stern Auditorium of the Carnegie Hall in 2016, and traveled to Lisbon, Portugal in 2017 to perform concerts in several major historic venues. She also participates in the North Shore Chamber Music Festival and performs for the benefit of the local community and non-profit organizations. Reina has participated in several local, national and international competitions for piano and violin since 2017. She was the 2nd place winner of the 2017 Sejong Cultural Society’s Music Competition (violin), 3rd place winner of the 2018 North Shore Music Teachers’ Association Music Competition (piano), 2nd place winner of the 2018 Chinese Fine Arts Society Music competition (violin), and a Gold medal winner of the 2019 Chicago Area Music Teachers Association Sonata Sonatina competition (piano). She is awarded 3rd place in the 2019 American Protégé International Piano and Strings competition (piano), and will return to perform in the Carnegie Hall in May 2019.

When not playing music, she can be found on a soccer field fiercely chasing the ball, quietly reading in her comfy bean bag, hanging out with friends or working on an art project. She is fluent in English and Japanese, and currently learning French at school. Reina enjoys traveling the world with her family, and has been to 30 countries so far.
