Roger Xia (Piano)
Roger Xia, 16, a junior at Davis Senior High School (DSHS), is a San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) pre-college student since 2014 and a San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO) member since 2015. He is currently the concertmaster of SFSYO and DSHS Symphony Orchestra. Roger started piano studies at age 5 with Linda Beaulieu and continues with Dr. Natsuki Fukasawa since 2009. He took violin lessons at age 7 with Dong Ho and continues with William Barbini since 2012. Being a 2018 National Young Arts Foundation Classical Music merit winner, Roger has appeared as a soloist with orchestras since age 8, made his Carnegie Hall debuts at age 10, won top prizes including the Mondavi Center YAC Pianist and Bouchaine Young Artists Prizes (2015), and was featured on the From the Top show 322 (2016). He played as soloist with MSO (2010), SYS Premier Orchestra and CVYS Orchestra (2014), UCDSO (2016), and Palo Alto Philharmonic and Camellia Symphony Orchestra (2017). He also performed at Bear Valley Music Festival (2013), Junior Bach Festival (2014), Mondavi Center Family Concert (2015), UC Davis Picnic Day (2016), Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) Summer Program and Orfeo International Music Festival (2017), as well as InterHarmony International Music Festival (2018). Aside from music, Roger enjoys math, reading, science, and movies. He also likes swimming, skiing, and Kung-Fu, as well as playing tennis, Ping Pong, and soccer. Most of all, he loves sharing his music-making experiences with friends in the community.
