Ellen Hayashi


Ellen Hayashi (15) is a 10th grade honors student at the American International School of Utah in Murray. She is a Dorothy and Richard Starling Foundation Scholar studying with Eugene Watanabe and a full-scholarship student in the Gifted Music School Conservatory. Ellen made her orchestral debut at 10 with the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, she has won numerous auditions, performing with orchestras in Utah, including the Utah Symphony. In 2018, Ellen was a semi-finalist at the Blount-Slawson Young Artists Competition and a finalist at the Coeur D’Alene National Young Artists Competition. Ellen also was a member of the Bear Quartet, winning the Pasadena Conservatory of Music Chamber Music and the WDAV Young Chamber Musicians’ Competitions. This past summer, she studied with Masao Kawasaki (The Juilliard School) at the Aspen Music Festival and School and played in the Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra. Besides violin, Ellen likes being with friends, watching Netflix, and snuggling with her dog Treble.
