William Gu
William Gu began his interaction with music through piano, at the age of 4. He is the Grand Champion and Gold award winner of the Youth Focus Young Artists competition. William began his cello training at age 8; he studied with Sieun Lin. Currently, he studies with Jonathan Koh.
William is the second place winner at the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition, and the first place winner of the 2017 VOCE competition in San Francisco. He also placed first in the 2017 Burlingame Music Competition, and placed second in the 2018 ENKOR International Music competition.
William is principal cellist at San Jose Youth Symphony’s Philharmonic orchestra. He soloed with the San Jose Youth Symphony's Chamber Orchestra performing Haydn's Cello Concerto in C, and also with Philharmonic Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme. He was selected to represent his school in the 2017 California All-State string orchestra.
William is also a member of California Music Preparatory Academy, and his piano trio won first place of 2015 VOCE competition in San Francisco, and his cello quartet won third place in the 2017 VOCE statewide competition.
