Honoka Shoji


Honoka Shoji has been playing the harp for over six years under her harp teacher, Miya Otake. She has also been taking part in programs offered by the Vancouver Academy of Music, where she is a member of the youth orchestral program, VAMSO, and has performed at the Orpheum Theatre numerous times. With the instruction of Dr. Joy Yeh, she has had training in chamber music, allowing her to be immersed into a world of music created by several other talented musicians.

Honoka has been competing locally, including the Kiwanis Music Festivals where she won 1st Place Gold for 4 consecutive years since 2013. She is annually selected to perform for the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival Showcase Gala Concerts by every adjudicator she has had. She has won the most prestigious “Excellence Awards Scholarship” sponsored by Tom Lee Music for the best performance of the 2017 Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival Evening Gala Showcase Concert and Competition. She was chosen among 8 other extremely talented finalists including pianists, violinist, cellist, guitarist, flutist, and singers from the Greater Vancouver Region. She has also received the Emerging Young Artist Scholarship sponsored by Aoyama Harp of Canada Ltd. along with VKMFS Medallions for the best performance of her category.

In addition to her music education, Honoka provides music at weddings, showers and corporate parties. She has actively taken part in charity events hosted by the Vancouver General Hospital, Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Wish Foundation, as well as the Tsunami Relief Concert for Japan. At the same time, her volunteer work in senior homes has helped her to develop a strong musical bond in her local communities.

Honoka shares her music with the world, because she truly believes that music can bring everybody together.
