William Chang
William Chang, 16, is a junior at San Francisco University High School. His piano studies started with a group keyboard program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He studied with Dr. Jaejin Lee in group lessons and subsequently in private classes until 2012. He has since been a student of Dr. Robert Schwartz. William completed the Advanced level of the California Certificate of Merit program in 9th grade and is a finalist at the state panel audition this year. He was selected for branch honor recitals and qualified for State Convention at each level. He was also chosen to perform at the San Francisco MTAC annual branch festivals for the past several years. He is a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival Golden Era of Romantic Music International Competition 2018, and the American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition 2017 (performed in Carnegie Hall). He was the pianist for the Sunset Youth Orchestra (2013-14) and the pit band of his high school’s spring musical productions (2016,17,18). William has also been a proud player of the San Francisco Sabercats ice hockey team since 2007 and a member of his high school’s varsity badminton team since 10th grade. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, cycling, crossword puzzles, computer programming, and of course video games.
