Sophie Chan

I am a 5th grader at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. I started to play piano when I was 5 years old. Dr. Kristin Elgersma formally taught me at the age of 8 years and after Dr. Elgersma moved, I am fortunate to find Dr. Wendy Yamashita, who currently teaches me. My first piano competition was for the Hawaii Music Teachers Association (HMTA) Junior Artist Piano Audition in October, 2016, where I received Honorable Mention. I was awarded the 2016-2017 Honors Recognition from the Punahou Music School in April, 2017. I won the HMTA Junior Piano Competition in October, 2017. Additionally, I was the First Prize Winner of International Music Competition for Best Chopin Performance on March 1, 2018. I also was Third Prize Winner for the International Music Competition for Best Haydyn Performance on March 31, 2018. Most recently, I was awarded Piano Young Musicians Category (Age 5 to 10) Honorable Mention Winner of the American Protege International and Strings Competition, Steinway Piano Competition-Honorable Mention, Osaka International Music Competition finalist and Hawaii MTA Junior Piano Second Prize.

I also play church organ and I am into the creative world of writing and painting deeply. My musicianship comes from my emotional expressions, as well, love of music.
