Megan Zhiyan Phuan


Megan started piano lessons at 4 years old. Naturally musical, she developed a keen interest in piano playing under the tutelage of Ms. Christine Gan Siew Hui. A confident performer, her passion in music is evident at a young age. She has performed in Singapore, Carnegie Hall in New York and Salzburg in Austria, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Her past achievements and performances include the following:

• HKYPAF - The 5th Hong Kong International Youth Performing Arts Festival in January 2018, awarded 3rd Prize in the Children A Category.

• Festival participant on the 1st Piano Island Festival in Singapore, 9-15 January 2018.

• Piano Marathon at ION Orchard, Singapore, organized by Steinway Gallery Singapore as a debut to its new community outreach initiative for the benefit of Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF), on 16 December 2017. It was a 13-hour marathon which was recorded in the Singapore Book of Records.

• Megan was the youngest participant at age 5 to participate in ChildAid 2017 held at Resorts World Theatre, Sentosa, Singapore in November 2017. ChildAid 2017 raised more than $2.1 million for the benefit of the needy children in Singapore.

• Batam International Piano Competition (BIOPC) 2017, awarded 2nd Prize for the Petite Category (age 7 and under) and 2nd Prize for the Bartok Composer Category in October 2017.

• Megan was invited to perform at the Grand Opening of Steinway Gallery Singapore at ION Orchard in October 2017. Many distinguished guests were invited during the Grand Opening.

• Singapore Performing Arts Festival (SPAF) 2017, awarded TWO GOLD prizes for the Grade 4 Piano Solo and Piano Duet Categories in August 2017, Singapore.

• The only recipient of the GOLD Prize at the 2nd Sarawak Music Festival 2017 in July 2017 for Age 7 and under category.

• American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Fall 2016, awarded JUDGES’ DISTINCTION and First Place Winner for her solo performance; invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall in New York on March 2017.

• American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Fall 2016, awarded First Place Winner for her duet performance; invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall in New York on March 2017.

• Resonates with: Steinway’s Rising Stars Series at the National Gallery Singapore on 25 February 2017, performed a set of solo and duet pieces for the public.

• Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, FIRST PRIZE Winner and EXCEPTIONAL YOUNG TALENT Special Prize for the Chamber Music A Category (duet); invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London in December 2016.

• American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music 2016, Second Place Winner; invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall in New York on March 2017.

• Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, FIRST PRIZE Winner and EXCEPTIONAL YOUNG TALENT Special Prize, she had his debut performance at Wiener Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria on 14 July 2016.

• 6th Singapore Performers’ Festival & Chamber Music Competition 2016, awarded a GOLD prize for Solo Piano Category in June 2016, Singapore.

• Bach in the Subways 2016, the 6th annual international celebration of the music of J.S. Bach to his 331st birthday held on 19-21 March 2016. She performed Bach Minuet in G minor on the piano; as well as Bach Minuet Number 1 on the violin.
