Megan Zhiyan Phuan


Megan Phuan Zhiyan, 7, aspires to make beautiful music to bring joy to others.

Megan started learning piano at the age of 4. Naturally musical, she developed a keen interest in piano playing under the tutelage of Ms. Christine Gan Siew Hui. A confident performer, her passion in music is evident at a young age. She has performed in Singapore, Carnegie Hall in New York; Salzburg, Austria; Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

In November 2018, Megan was awarded 1st Prize for Categories I-II in the AMADEUS 2018, The 25th International Mozart Competition for young pianists up to 11 years old, in Brno, Czech Republic. In addition, she was also awarded the Special Jury Prize for Best Performance for Categories I-III.

In March 2018, Megan was awarded 1st Prize in the La Pianista Singapore in the 6 and under category; as well as 1st Prize in the Great Composers Competition, Best Bartok Performance.

In December 2017, Megan participated in the Piano Marathon organized by Steinway Gallery Singapore for the benefit of Business Times Budding Artists Fund. It was a 13-hour marathon which was recorded in the Singapore Book of Records.

Megan was the youngest participant at age 5 to participate in ChildAid 2017 held at Resorts World Theatre, Sentosa. The event raised more than $2.1 million for the benefit of the needy children in Singapore.

Megan was the only recipient of the GOLD Prize at the 2nd Sarawak Music Festival 2017 in July 2017 for Age 7 and under category.

Megan made her debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York in March 2017, after winning FIRST PRIZE and JUDGES’ DISTINCTION at the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Fall 2016; and GOLD PRIZE at the 17th AADGT International Young Musicians Festival ""PASSION OF MUSIC 2017"".

She was awarded FIRST PRIZE and EXCEPTIONAL YOUNG TALENT Special Prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, in which she had her debut performance at Wiener Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria in July 2016.

At the 6th Singapore Performers’ Festival & Chamber Music Competition 2016, she awarded a GOLD prize for Solo Piano Category in June 2016, Singapore.

Aside from competitions, she gives back to the society by performing at the Alexandra Hospital for the hospital staff and patients. She also enjoys performing in projects such as Bach in the Subways, the Steinway Rising Stars Series at the Singapore National Gallery.
