Joy Xu
Joy Xu is fourteen years old and is a ninth-grade student at Hopkins School in New Haven, CT. Joy has been under the tutelage of Ms. Yoshie Akimoto, Steinway Artist, since 2017. Joy began her piano study at the age of four with Ms. Kumiko Imamura. As an accomplished young pianist, Joy has won numerous local and regional piano competitions and performed at various prestigious venues in the United States. Her major musical achievements include winning the 2019 Danbury Symphony Concerto Competition, being selected to have a master class with Professor Nelita True, being invited to perform for the Music for Youth benefit concert, and performing at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall and Stern Auditorium), Steinway Gallery, and Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, CO. In addition to piano, she enjoys exploring STEM subjects and plays volleyball.
