Jerry Chang
Jerry Chang, 10-year-old, is currently a 4th grader at Forsyth school in St Louis, Missouri. Starting at the age of 4, Jerry has been studying piano with Ms. Zena Ilyashov for 6 years. Jerry was a three-time winner of the Missouri Music Teachers Association’s State Piano Competition. In 2016, he won first place in the Southern Illinois University Young Pianist Competition in Division I (ages 8-10) and third place at the 2016 St. Louis Piano and Instrumental Competition (ages up to 18 for all instruments). Jerry also won the 2016 Deborah Fox Guild Award of Alton Symphony’s concerto competition and performed Concerto No.3 by Kabalevsky with the orchestra in Feb 2017. In June 2017, Jerry won the third prize at the prestigious Kaufman International Youth Piano Competition, Junior Division, in New York City. His performance was featured on St Louis Radio Arts Foundation and WXQR New York Classic Radio Station. Most recently Jerry was award first prize of Best Mendelssohn Performance in the global online Great Composers Competition. Jerry was selected as a finalist for National Public Radio's ""From the Top"" auditions.
Jerry is a recipient of the annual scholarship from the G. A., Jr. and Kathryn M. Buder Foundation, and Gregory Courtney merit scholarship from Community Music School of Webster University. Jerry also plays clarinet in his school band. In addition to his music pursuit, Jerry is a premier league soccer player; he also enjoys playing basketball, tennis, chess and reading adventure books.
