Daphne Nie

Daphne Nie is a 16 year old violinist and sophomore at North Allegheny Intermediate High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began playing violin when she was 10 years old as a part of her elementary school orchestra program. She began lessons half a year later with Mr. Hongguang Jia of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with whom she still studies with today. When she was 14 years old, she joined the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra and played in their first violin section. When she was 15 years old, she joined the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, playing what she considers some of the most challenging orchestral repertoire she has played thus far including Don Juan and Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony. She joined the orchestra on their summer 2017 tour to Spain, which she considers one of the most thrilling and exciting experiences of her life. She continues to play with the orchestra today along with her chamber group, the Leo Quartet. Besides violin, she enjoys running for her school cross country team, learning science, and doing math. She hopes to continue enjoying music as both a performer and an audience member for the rest of her life.
