Dayna Hagstedt
Originally from Waxhaw, North Carolina, Dayna is currently a freshman undergraduate flutist at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She studies with Alberto Almarza and is mentored by Lorna McGhee. She performs regularly with the Carnegie Mellon University Wind Ensemble and Orchestra.
Dayna has performed in masterclasses for prestigious flutists such as Jeanne Baxtresser, Jeffrey Khaner, Mimi Stillman, Egor Egorkin and Natalie Joachim of Eighth Blackbird. She has performed extensively in the southeast region of the country both as a soloist and a chamber musician with her former woodwind quintet “Dodeca Quintet.” While at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Dayna regularly performed with the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Film Score Recording Orchestra and Winston Salem Youth Symphony.
Dayna attended Curtis Summerfest where she performed in masterclasses daily with Jeffrey Khaner and Mimi Stillman. While there, she participated in various solo and chamber ensembles. During the summer of 2016, Dayna was selected as a soloist for the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. She has received several distinctions, including first place of the South Carolina Flute Society Senior Artist Competition, second place in the Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt, second place in the Peter Perret Youth Talent Search and first place in the Winston Salem Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. In addition, she is a member of the Musicians with a Mission Foundation where she regularly performs solo and chamber works at various locations in the Pittsburgh area.
Dayna is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program where she studied under Dr. Tadeu Coelho and Nicolas Duchamp. She was the recipient of the Chancellor's Award of Excellence at UNCSA.
