Joey Zhu

Joey Zhu, 16 years old, is a junior attending California High School in San Ramon and has studied piano since the age of five. His current teachers are Jed Galant. Joey was selected to perform Haydn Piano Concerto for the Livermore-Amador Symphony Guild at the age of ten. This year, he was chosen as a piano soloist to perform the Schumann Concerto with the Sinfonietta orchestra of El Camino Youth Symphony, and to perform Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2 with the Livermore-Amador Symphony. Joey has won many awards in piano competitions, including the Taghioff Award from the Fremont Symphony Orchestra competition, American Protege international music talent competition, the Marilyn Mindell competition, the CAPMT piano competition, and US Open Music Competition. He has participated in the Junior Bach Festival twice and has been selected to perform Bach’s first and second partita suites. In addition to piano, Joey also plays cello in the Senior Orchestra of El Camino Youth Symphony.
